Aiden and Celine

Chapter 1

The atmosphere at the Howl’n Wolf was electric tonight.  The crowd was alive with all of the excitement that rolled off of the stage, and as always it blanketed the crowd with an uncontrollable desire to stand and dance.  Some sang along, some cheered on the band and others just stood at the back of the crowd by the bar and mingled and watched.

Aiden Wolfe, a fiery guitar player, had a voice that sounded like a rock and roll god bellowing out magical lyrics that entranced most women and just made the others hungry with desire.  At six foot four inches, he towered above the crowd from the stage like a statue that had come to life.  His features chiseled from some exotic stone that never aged or showed a defect.  His brown hair was short and kept in the back but grew long and hung wildly untamed in his dark soulful eyes.

There were a lot of groupies that he recognized.  Easy for the taking, any of them would swoon for the chance of a little one on one in the company of the wolf with the magic fingers.  Called Wolf by most who knew him, not just because of his last name but also because although he loved his music and the high he got off of performing, he mostly kept to himself and really lived the loner lifestyle.  He kept his private life just that… private.  So much so in fact that even members of his band didn’t know where he spent his idle hours.  He showed up for rehearsals and gigs and was as dependable as they came, but that was where he drew the line and unwelcome intrusions were met with a fiery temper.

Little did they know, a wolf was exactly what he was?  Barley into the realization of his heritage, he was still trying to wrap his brain around the reality of it all.  He had been orphaned as a child but left with enough of an inheritance to continuously keep him enrolled in one military academy after another until he reached the age of 18.  With nowhere else to go, he retreated to the only place he had any memories of, New Orleans.  The city and its people had somehow left lingering smells and recollections of a different side of life.  Faint at first, but somehow engrained in him were comforting sounds of bijou rock and roll.  His family had an old plantation that had slipped just out of reach of the parish and had been swallowed by the swamps.  Most paid him no mind, because out of site is out of mind.  Loving the freedom he experienced and the lack of structure gave him the ability to hone his musical skills and do what he enjoyed most, be left alone.  If he had been a mere man, he could have blended better into society, but being a wolf left him with what he felt were insecurities and emotions that  were better kept out of the public eye.

As an educated man, he understood how to read music on paper and recreate what he saw with his guitar.  But as a wolf, with all of his senses at their peak he felt the music.  It took him on a thrill ride every time he gave himself over to it, but the few minutes before he took the stage were the most difficult.  He had to fight the sensations of being stared at and stalked by those worshipping his sound.  He would pace in circles and often found a few drinks of Absente would knock the edge off.  It kept his head clear of the jitters and enabled him to take the stage without his emotions holding him back.  Tonight, he had a few extra drinks hoping to see the green fairies dancing above the crowd.  But he had no idea how the green concoction would enhance a set of emerald eyes that flickered at him from across the room.  Her perfect breasts swayed not to the music he was playing but the beat that was in his own head.  The more he stared at this exotic beauty the more he noticed her skittish response.  She began to pace like a caged animal and he could feel what he swore was her heart beat quicken as she did so.  Not used to seeing this reaction from others drew his attention to her even more.  She would duck behind the columns supporting the old buildings second floor and he would lose sight of her as she purposely tried to block his view.

Suddenly, there they were.  Three small green fairies were present and dancing above the crowd.  He couldn’t believe his eyes.  Joking about it with his band mates, he never really expected to hallucinate and see fairies, but there they were.  They sipped about, their wings beating in unison with the drummers beat.  They seemed to be aware of his attention and his mind told him that this was definitely the affects of the alcohol he had plied his nerves with earlier.  Soon a tingling sensation started to itch in his tribal arm band tattoo.  As he played his guitar and then lit it on fire for the shows final song, it felt as if something were trying to pry the skin from his arm.  He tried to keep it together as he began to see fairies forming in his tattoo and then lift off of his arm only to glide through the air and dance with the fairies he was seeing above the crowd.  This is a real trip, he thought as he became aware of a woman’s voice in his head.  “Control them or I will,” she purred as he again focused on the green eyes watching him from the bar.  Her gaze was stricken with horror as she seemed to repeatedly call the original fairies to her.   She could see he was oblivious to what was happening and was bordering on shock as she realized she had lost control of her three little companions.

It was just starting to register in his head that this stranger could see the same hallucinations he could until he saw her lips form a series of words; he strained to understand but could not.  Instantly, the three lovely little ladies bowed to their new found dance partners and unbeknownst to all of the patrons of the bar and his band mates glided back through the air toward their mistress.  His jaw dropped as he played the last few notes of the song when he saw them take their place as tattoos on the back of her neck and shoulder.  He could see one playfully peek out from under her hair line and blow him a kiss good-bye as the woman walked out of the door of the bar.

Brought back to reality by his band mate smacking him on the arm and passing him as he left the stage, a panic came over him as he realized his tribal band was moving and shifting and regaining its original form.

Leaping off the stage and forcing his way through the crowd to the door she disappeared through, suddenly Aiden found himself in the alley between two old buildings.  He ran his hands through his hair trying to shake off an odd feeling that had crept up from deep inside of him.  His heart raced and his fists clinched tight around his guitar at the realization he could still smell her scent floating through the air.  If he didn’t follow it soon it would disappear in the breeze.  The night was alarmingly calm as he whipped back through the bar and into his dressing room.  Silently nodding to his band all of his focus was on gathering his gear and getting to his bike.  With his guitar on his back now, he threw one leg over his bike and started its engine.  He tilted his head back and inhaled the night air.  There she is, he smiled to himself as he followed her scent down one alley and then along the street to the next.  She had obviously taken a route that would shake off the best of hunters, but he had no control over himself in this situation.  He could almost taste her sweet smell on is tongue.  She must be in heat, he thought to himself as he felt a hunger was swelling up in him that he wasn’t sure he could control.  His senses, clouded with lust, focused in on her location and he smiled to himself as he came to a stop in the alley between an old antique store and small house with an alley entrance that read “Fortune Teller” in small cursive letters across the glass window of the door.  Her scent was thick in the air outside the door and as Aiden stood preparing himself to go inside he shut his eyes and took in a large deep breath and focused on the sound and rhythm of her heart beating from inside the house.  Opening his eyes, he was surprised to see the three small male fairies that had emerged from his tattoo at the bar were now hovering side by side in front of him at eye level.   “You can’t go in there!” Nip stated sharply as he folded his little arms in front of his chest in a defiant manner.  “It is for your own safety!” Tik grinned knowing that their presence wasn’t going to be easy for Aiden to digest.  Aiden stood totally silent and stared at the three with a look of disbelief on his face.  “No, we are not hallucinations.  Take it all in and then we need to go back to the house and have a long talk as quickly as possible” Pedal added in calm tone as he blew a handful of fairy dust into Aiden’s face magically breaking the hold his lust had on him.

About that time, the three little lads began to whistle a very soft melody.  Mesmerized by the sound, Aiden who had just re-straddled his bike sat and watched as Tuck, Tok, and Pedal began to harmonize together.  It sounded like a very soft lullaby at first but then is drifted into more of a love song.  “Be still my heart, our time is near.  Thousands of moons have separated us dear.  But tonight marks the birth of a brand new time with a song in my heart and you on my mind.”  The words were barely spoken when three small womanly shadows danced on the ground around them like butterflies.  “We’ll see you soon ladies,” Pedal bowed and then looked up at the upstairs windows.  Waving back down at them was Nip, Tik and Rose.  They were fluttering like school girls with their first crush blowing kisses back at them and flushing pink.  With that, the little lads resumed their position on Aiden’s arm and rode off into the night.

 Chapter 2

Silently she sat in the dark thinking of how the night had played out.  She watched her little companions twinkling to and fro with the excitement of seeing the boys for the first time in almost twenty years.  “You haven’t told me everything have you?” Celine’s words barley a whisper as she recalled the various stories Nip, Tik and Rose had shared with her over the years.  She knew about the attack on her family.  She knew she was in the garden playing and she knew the girls had been separated from their mates but that was all she knew.  She had never considered or even entertained that thought that Tuk, Tok, and Pedal had survived the attack.  She had always assumed that the girls were in the same situation she was.  She thought they had all been devastated by a loss that had affected their way of life for the last two decades.  “If your mates were alive then why have you all stayed apart?  Help me to understand this better…” her voice trailed off and was full of tears and anxiety.

“Child, child” Rose soothed as she flew up and landed on the floor next to Celine.  In the blink of an eye, she was full size and wrapping her arms around the little girl she so carefully watched grow into the woman before her.  “We have never lied to you.  Nor, will we ever leave you.  Please take comfort from that, because it has come time to tell you of all we know about you and Aiden.”

“Aiden” she said out load while her brain recognized the sound of his name rolling off of her tongue.  “Yes dear,” Tik said,” he was with us in the garden playing hide and”  “seek” Nip completed the sentence for her.  “And he is your life mate.” Rose whispered as she rubbed her hand lovingly up and down Celine’s back.  “What?” Celine blinked as she stood up and started to pace back and forth in front of the mirror spooking Rose back into her normal form.

Landing on the nightstand and pacing back and forth herself, Nip began to tell Celine the story of the markings and how the only reason she and Aiden were spared that day was because of their bonding at such an early age.  “You have to realize child, it can take centuries for two life mates to find one another and the two of you were born days apart and into families that were in the same clan.  It isn’t just rare; it was a first…a sign.”
